WILLIAMS ELEVATED WITHIN BUCS' FRONT OFFICE

WILLIAMS ELEVATED WITHIN BUCS' FRONT OFFICE
Doug Williams always had an eye for talent and now he will have more of a voice in shaping the Bucs' roster.

Williams has been promoted to coordinator of pro scouting, the club announced Tuesday.

His responsibilities are essentially the same as new general manager Mark Dominik had as director of pro scouting - overseeing the scouting and recruiting of all NFL players while monitoring league transactions and supervising player tryouts.

In addition, Williams is in charge of the Bucs' evaluating efforts of other pro leagues, including the Canadian Football League.

"I think it gives me more responsibility, it really does," Williams, 53, said. "It's something to hang your hat on. It gives me direct responsibility."

Williams, the former Bucs quarterback and Super Bowl MVP with the Redskins, has been a pro personnel executive with Tampa Bay since 2004.

But for the past five years, Williams' input was limited because the personnel decisions were nearly made in a vacuum by general manager Bruce Allen and coach Jon Gruden.

Williams also will have an impact on acquiring free agents. He said the team already has discussed players it would like to pursue when the signing period begins this month.

"It's a good move for me, a real good move," Williams said. "With the guys I'll be working with ... we can take it and run."

Williams' promotion wasn't the only move announced Tuesday. The Bucs hired former Packers assistant Robert Nunn as defensive line coach. Nunn worked with defensive coordinator Jim Bates with the Dolphins (2000-02, 2004) and during his first season in Green Bay (2005-08). In an unusual arrangement, Nunn will work alongside current defensive line coach Todd Wash.

The Bucs also named former Broncos assistant Joe Baker defensive backs coach and promoted Kurtis Shultz to head strength and conditioning coach and Dwayne Stukes to assistant defensive backs coach. The team also named Chris Keenan assistant strength and conditioning coach.

Baker worked the past two seasons for the Broncos. He also has had stops with the Rams, Packers, Saints and Jaguars.
