Tannenbaum: trade for a veteran player quot
Apr. 24, 2009 (Newsday delivered by Newstex ) --

Theres just nothing better than walking around Manhattan on a warm day such as this one and seeing a Mister Softee truck.

With that that out of the way?

I missed Mike Tannenbaums appearance on WFAN this afternoon but according to Hofstras own J.P. Pelzman of the Record, the general manager referred to the Jets chances of trading for a veteran player as ?pretty remote.

?I'd be pretty surprised, Tannenbaum said.

To quote Jim Malone from the Untouchables, quot;And if you believe that, l'll tell you another.quot;

No one really knows, of course, the primary reason, as fun as the speculation has been -- this year in particular it seems -- Saturday can't get here soon enough.

I said it earlier in the week and again during our Live Chat on Wednesday: I think with the number of teams trying to run away from the top 10, and the intrigue surrounding a couple of players (namely Mark Sanchez), this will be one of the most theatrical drafts in recent years. And I think the Jets will be right in the middle of that.

Could that drama include Anquan Boldin? With the report that the Cardinals have lowered their price (no longer a first and third round pick) the Jets will explore that. They called when the Cardinals first said they were interested in dealing the receiver; no reason to think they havent called again. BUT now the Cardinals are hinting its unlikely theyll move Boldin.

Is Quinn out of the picture? Sure. Maybe. No.

In a story reporting the Broncos interesting in Mark Sanchez(the question at this point with Sanchez is who ISNT interested), the Denver Post reported that the Broncos contacted the Browns about Brady Quinns availability and were essentially told: not for sale. Well see. Not sure Eric Mangini would ever outright say any player was off the table as far as trades go.

* I asked Josh Freeman at the NFL Play 60 event in Central Park if he's felt ignored by the Jets in recent weeks, the same way Mark Sanchez expressed some thoughts of abandonment the other day on a conference call.

?Its been the same for me, Freeman said with a smile. ?I think they wanted to evaluate and try not to give any more information. Obviously they have a plan for what they want to do with their first pick and they dont want anybody to know what it is. I dont know if its anything I did wrong because if Marks getting the same thing, maybe thats just how they operate.

In the case of Sanchez, the Jets remain very interested and their lack of communication is a flat-out smokescreen. In the case of Freeman, theyre rapidly losing interest and though (clich? alert!) nothing is impossible, to use Tannenbaums words, its looking ?pretty remote hell be the Jets pick.

I think if Harvin is there at 17, it might very well be him and though very few else seem to think so, I dont rule Knowshon Moreno out of the picture.

Or Brandon Pettigrew; or a trade up from 17 or a trade down from 17; or Darrius Heyward-Bey?really, I wont rule anything or any player out and therefore, whatever happens, you read it here first!

And with that, enjoy Draft Day. As I mentioned earlier, Chris Mascaro (Im pretty sure its Chris) will have Live Chat action here during the Draft, and well have a Live Chat Draft review Tuesday morning at 11.
