Denver Broncos Notes, Quotes 2008-09-19
Charges of misdemeanor battery were filed against Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall stemming from an incident with his then-girlfriend in Atlanta this March, but that in itself likely won't lead to further discipline by the NFL. The league knew about the case when Commissioner Roger Goodell met with Marshall in July.

The NFL did say that it will monitor the case. A court date has not been set. Marshall, who has already served a one-game suspension for violating the league's conduct policy, faces the possibility of further discipline depending on the outcome of the case.

"We have been aware of the potential charges," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said. "We will continue to monitor the case and review it under our policy as appropriate."

Marshall hasn't let any off-field issues affect his play. He had 18 catches in his season debut against San Diego last week.

Marshall has tried to put his problems in his past, saying repeatedly that he has changed some things in his life and won't be in trouble again. He has been arrested three times since the beginning of 2007. He did address the latest charges in Atlanta.

"That's my past," Marshall said. "Everything that came out in camp was from last year and there was an incident in March, but that's still an open case and we've been waiting six months for those charges to be filed, and it's finally here."

--Defensive end Jarvis Moss said coaches told him he will be active for this week's game against New Orleans. He was inactive the first two games but the Saints like to pass the ball, and Moss is a pass-rushing specialist.

"I've got to get myself ready," Moss said.

--Former Denver safety John Lynch, who asked for his release from the Broncos during training camp, hasn't been on a roster for either of the first two regular-season games. Lynch was cut by New England before the season.

Lynch said he doesn't regret asking to leave Denver. He wasn't thrilled about his role and thought the team was prepared to move on without him.

"I'm proud of those guys and the way they're playing now, and wish them the best," Lynch said.

Lynch said he isn't retired but knows that the longer he is out, the less the chance is of him playing again.

"I'm moving on with life. I'm not sitting there waiting by the phone," Lynch said.

--Receiver Brandon Marshall was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week after catching 18 balls against San Diego. Marshall played almost the entire game after missing a week because of a NFL suspension.

"Having the type of game that he had is really a credit to him staying in shape," Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said.

BY THE NUMBERS: 55 -- Catches for Brandon Marshall in his last five games, which is a record for any five-game stretch in NFL history.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "The way they are playing right now, they are making me look good." -- Quarterback Jay Cutler, on his offensive line.
