--The Broncos moved quickly to revamp their backfield on the first day off free agency, signing former Eagle Correll Buckhalter to be the No. 1 back and former Cardinal J.J. Arrington to serve as a third-down back and potential kick returner.
--The Broncos have plenty of salary-cap room after a purge of veterans, but have many holes to fill. And last year Denver eased off its typical strategy of giving out big contracts to high-profile free agents, which might not change in the economic climate.
Denver will look to find reasonably priced veterans that fit its scheme on offense and defense.
--Denver didn't make much effort to re-sign any of its free agents, as it turns the page to a new era. Linebacker Nate Webster and defensive end Ebenezer Ekuban are among last year's starters that will be on the open market.
--If the Broncos can find a solid veteran receiver to play on the outside, that could allow them to move Eddie Royal back to a slot position, which was what the team envisioned for him when it took Royal in the second round last year. Royal played very well last year, with 91 catches, and could take on a Wes Welker-type role in the slot in Josh McDaniels' offense.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "We're going to try to mold the roster and make it the most competitive we can at every spot." -- Broncos coach Josh McDaniels.
